For a 10-person crew, Jobber's Grow plan costs $349 a month on a one-year commitment. That adds up to $4,188 a year and $20,940 over five years. Housecall Pro's MAX plan for the same crew comes to $399 a month, or $23,940 over five years. Both bills keep running as long as the software is in use.
Every number below comes from the vendors' public pricing pages. Sources and dates are at the bottom.
Disclosure: this report is published by Own Your Tools, which sells contractor software and appears in the table below. Its numbers come from its own public pricing page, the same way everyone else's do.
How we priced it
Software ads lead with the smallest number on the page. Jobber's says "plans starting at $29/month," which is accurate for its Core plan: one user, billed annually. A shop with a crew doesn't buy that plan.
So we priced what a working shop actually buys. Ten people, on a plan built for a crew, over five years. Five years is about how long a contractor stays on the software he picks, and it's long enough for a monthly bill to show its real size.
Five-year cost for a 10-person crew
| Platform and plan | Monthly | Year 1 | 5 years | Source (checked) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber Grow, 10 users, 1-year commitment | $349 | $4,188 | $20,940 | getjobber.com/pricing (Oct 2026) |
| Housecall Pro MAX, 8 users + 2 at $35 | $399 | $4,788 | $23,940 | housecallpro.com/pricing (Oct 2026) |
| Own Your Tools, one-time license | $0 | $490 | $886 max | ownyourtools.work (Oct 2026) |
We used Jobber Grow because it's the tier with job costing and two-way texting. A shop that can do without those can run Jobber Connect at 10 users for $259 a month on a one-year commitment, which is $15,540 over five years. Jobber also gets cheaper with prepayment: Grow billed annually is $299 a month, or $17,940 over five years. Housecall Pro MAX billed annually starts at $299 for the first 8 users.
The Own Your Tools row is a one-time $490 license with 10 seats and the first year of hosting included, plus an annual platform fee from year two that is capped at $99. The table assumes the full $99 every year.
What the next hire costs
Read enough contractor reviews of field service software and a pattern shows up. Very few say the product doesn't work. Most are about the bill, and the complaints bunch up right when a shop starts growing.
Here's how each platform prices growth:
- Jobber: no per-seat price on its public pricing page. Users come in bands. One hire past 10 on Grow moves the shop into the 15-user band at $429 a month on a one-year commitment, which is $80 a month more, or $960 a year. Billed annually, the step is $299 to $399, or $100 a month more. Past 15 users, the page says to talk to sales.
- Housecall Pro MAX: $35 a month for each user past 8, or $420 a year per person.
- Own Your Tools: no per-user fee, up to 10 seats on one license.
Run that forward. A Housecall Pro shop that grows from 8 to 10 people and keeps both new hires for five years pays $4,200 in seat fees alone, on top of the plan. A Jobber Grow shop that adds an eleventh person pays $4,800 more over five years for that one hire.
Four costs that aren't on the pricing page
Getting paid
Card payments run through a processor on every platform, and some platforms add their own charges. Jobber charges an extra 1% for instant payouts. On a $10,000 job, that's $100 earned and not kept.
When comparing platforms, ask two questions. Does money land in an account you control, and does the software take any percentage on top of the processor's own fee?
Add-ons
Phone systems, marketing tools and AI answering services are increasingly sold apart from the base plan. The phrase "nickel and dime" turns up in reviews of several different competitors, written by people who never read each other's reviews. Price the add-ons you'd actually use before comparing base plans, or the comparison is fiction.
Prices you can't see
Some vendors don't publish prices at all. By September 2026, Workiz showed "Request pricing" on its Standard, Pro and Ultimate plans, and ServiceTitan quotes only. Once the price requires a sales call, the buyer has given up some leverage before the conversation starts.
The cost to leave
Read the cancellation terms before the feature list. A ServiceTitan customer reviewing on Capterra in July 2026 wrote that the only way out of their contract was to pay roughly $22,000. Multi-year terms and auto-renewing add-ons can turn a decision to switch into a five-figure bill.
Data is the other half of leaving. Before signing, find out whether you can export your customer list, job history and photos yourself, in a format another program can read, without opening a support ticket.
How to price software for your own crew
Skip the starting price and pull up the plan that fits your actual headcount. Find out what the next hire adds per month, and whether that charge ever stops. Then check the payment terms, price the add-ons you'd use, and read the cancellation clause.
If the answers come back as a number bigger than the ad, a bigger bill for every new hire, and "talk to sales," the five-year total is going to be a lot higher than the first invoice.
Where Own Your Tools fits
Own Your Tools is the publisher of this report and the one-time-license row in the table. It was built for shops going from one truck to a crew. The license is $490 once (the founding price, for the first 25 shops, then $700; the current price is on the pricing page), or $49 a month for 12 months and then it's yours. Either way, an annual platform fee for hosting and updates, capped at $99, starts after the first year. Ten seats, no per-user fee, no cut of customer payments, one-click export of everything, and a 60-day money-back guarantee.
FAQ
How much does Jobber cost for 10 users? Jobber's Grow plan at 10 users is $399 a month with no commitment, $349 a month on a one-year commitment, or $299 a month billed annually. Connect at 10 users is $259 a month on a one-year commitment (getjobber.com/pricing, October 2026).

What does it cost to add a technician to field service software? It depends on the pricing model. Housecall Pro MAX charges $35 a month per user past 8. Jobber sells user bands, so one hire past 10 on Grow moves the shop to the 15-user price, $80 to $100 a month more depending on billing. Some platforms, including Own Your Tools, include a set number of seats with no per-user fee.
Is there field service software with no monthly bill? Yes. Own Your Tools sells a one-time license ($490 at the founding price) with an annual platform fee from year two, capped at $99.
Why does contractor software cost so much over time? The monthly bill never ends, it grows with headcount, and payment fees, add-ons and contract terms stack on top of it.
